Our team was enlisted to tell the story of the Carolinas’ first school for data science, located in Charlotte’s buzzing hub of “big data.” UNC Charlotte’s School of Data Science, which encompasses both undergraduate and graduate programs, offers boundless opportunities for students of all backgrounds. To tell the unique story of these programs of study and the faculty, staff, and students that bring academia and industry together, we spent a day capturing the energy of the campus and in-depth interviews with representatives from the School of Data Science to tell this exciting success story that continues to touch lives across the state and nation.

Production

Capturing the rich camaraderie of students and faculty in this program was a unique challenge during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a quiet campus and most students attending classes online. By developing a strong relationship with the School of Data Science faculty and staff, we were able to spend time experiencing “a day in the life” of two students in the program, Joshua and Paul, an undergraduate and graduate student, respectively.

the Impact

What do you need to refuel? Not your car but YOU? Circle K is the most convenient stop for a cup of coffee, a water or a Polar Pop (but don’t forget about the hot dogs) as you tackle your day. We followed seven people, with seven unique stories and seven different day jobs into Circle K to see how they took advantage of America’s thirst stop.
